No matter what, there’s no wrong way to do Dune. Reading the novel halfway through is another way. Dune 2 picks up immediately after Paul and his mother, Lady. Dune largely chronicled the fall of House Atreides and the beginning of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) journey to liberate Arrakis with the aid of the Fremen. Dune is Pardot Kynes, micro-ecology, patience and long-term goals. Dune is saying very little with a great many words. The upcoming film is one way into that story. Denis Villeneuve made the decision with his adaptation of Frank Herberts sci-fi novel to split the story into two parts. Dune is the middle-aged man who, on hearing praise for his young sons, must always exclaim 'I taught them everything they know' Dune is an unsettling change in POV turned familiar, insightful friend. Everything is just a new perspective on the same story. In this way, no Dune spoiler is really a spoiler. After all, Herbert designed the book to be read more than once so that the reader could recontextualize the story from different points of view. ![]() That quick synopsis isn’t the same as experiencing Dune. ![]() Intellectually, you kind of already know the basics of Dune: A family goes to a desert planet to fight for control of the Spice, Paul (Timothée Chalamet) is maybe the Chosen One, sandworms are there, and people have glowing blue eyes. The larger point you can argue is that reading half of Dune is not too different from watching a trailer for the film that is like 40 hours long. ![]()
